KICK TO KILL – Black Kisses single release (21st Nov 2011)
> Posted: Friday, October 21st, 2011 by StephenFollowing a glorious, youthful debut single which was described by future Scotcampus editor Hammond as “the single best song I’ve heard from a Scottish group in a very long time” (Heaven or Las Vegas) the original lineup promptly disintegrated. A single in 2009, ‘Cut Me’, became tinged with blood soaked irony when chief songwriter and front man Dave Cook survived a near fatal stabbing in Glasgow shortly before the release. One of the reviews at the time described the band as “Like you’re in a club with The Stooges in their heyday” (Shout 4 Music). Support slots have included The Fall, A Place To Bury Strangers, The Damned and John Cooper Clarke. With a debut album in the can, Black Kisses sees Kick To Kill finally ready to emerge from the darkness. The single is out 21st Nov on limited edition vinyl replica cd and download.
MUMMY SHORT ARMS – Change single release (14th Nov 2011)
> Posted: Friday, October 21st, 2011 by StephenFollowing hot on the heels of a debut single which gained reviews using words like “genius” and “pure alternative perfection” Glasgow based band Mummy Short Arms release their second single, a maverick slice of melody entitled ‘Change’. Reviewers have compared the band to Captain Beefheart, the Velvet Underground and Tom Waits. The single is out 14th Nov on limited edition vinyl replica cd and download.
FOR ABEL – Yorkshire single release (5th Nov 2011)
> Posted: Friday, October 21st, 2011 by StephenFor Abel’s debut album has already gained deserved rave reviews, with Loud Horizon / Artrocker scribe Colin Jackson writing “if they do not make the breakthrough to general acceptance this year I’m gonna have to chuck this reviewing lark! 10/10”. The track Yorkshire is released on 5th Nov 2011 as a single. Like the song says, Britain in 2011 looks “like a scene from ‘89”. Unemployment figures have hit their highest since 1989. On Nov 5th we are not suggesting anyone blows up the Houses of Parliament, but we are suggesting that it’s time to start expressing no confidence in a Tory government. They are the enemies of the poor. We need to replace this government with one which believes in the equality of human beings.
The single is available on 5th Nov 2011 on limited edition vinyl cd & download. For more info click here (link to Flowers 14)
